Today is my stop on the blog tour for Rainy Days for the Harper Girls.

My Review

Rainy Days for the Harper Girls forms part of the Harper Girls series by Rosie Clarke.

Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres and as soon as I saw the cover for this book and read the blurb, I couldn’t wait to read it. Set in the lead up to World War I this book conveys the feelings of many men and women as the likelihood of England joining the war became imminent. This book is rich in other events that were taking place in England during this time and talks about the suffragete movement and how perspectives were starting to change. Women wanted the opportunity to vote and continue working after marriage. The class divide is also highlighted, the often poor treatment of women at the hands of their husbands and how continuing education simply wasn’t an option for some families. Due to the immediate need to help put food on the table and what happened to families who couldn’t afford their rent or food.

Whilst reading this wonderful story there was something for everyone with romance blossoming, the birth of a baby, historical events and the continued loyalty of the Harper girls.

I can’t wait to read more books in this series as I loved the friendships formed and would love another visit to the wonderful Harper store with its gorgeous window displays.
