Join me today for a trip to Cornwall and check out my review for Summertime at the Cornish Confetti Agency by Daisy James #backablogger #daisyjames #blogtour #rachelsrandomresources @rararesources @daisyjamesbooks

Today I am very excited to be sharing my review for Summertime at the Cornish Confetti Agency. I have loved reading books by Daisy James for many years and am thrilled to share my review today.

My Review

I do love a book by Daisy James and this book combines a brilliant author, in a beautiful location and with the ultimate role of making sure a wedding goes off without a hitch.

Lexie had the odds stacked against her as random pranks are played against the obnoxious best man who appears to have no sense of humour and is intent on rubbing everyone up the wrong way.

So amongst planning the wedding she is trying to ensure that nothing else happens that could pose a problem to Dylan & Kay’s dream wedding.

A wonderful read that I really enjoyed, this book had great characters and I loved the descriptions and theme behind the dream wedding. A totally inspired idea that was easy to visualise as it all came together.

A book that grabs your attention so you just want to hide away and read uninterrupted for a few hours.

Book Blurb

It’s Summertime at The Cornish Confetti Agency!

When Lexie Harrington is asked to co-ordinate Kat and Dylan’s ‘English village fête’ wedding, she’s determined that this time everything will go according to her carefully laid plans; no ice bucket challenges, no whoopee cushions, and absolutely no googly eyes attached to everything in sight!

With gorgeous journalist-cum-wedding columnist Theo Barker to offer a helping hand, Lexie is optimistic that she can deliver the fairy tale wedding her clients have always dreamed of…. until the best man Noah is targeted by a loose hosepipe, the wedding rings go walk-about, and his beloved scarlet Porsche takes on a distinctly unpleasant aroma.

Can Lexie and Theo uncover what’s behind the mysterious goings on, or will the Cornish Confetti Agency be forced to close its doors to the future brides and grooms of glorious Cornwall?

About the Author

Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plotlines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations – the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence – so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.

When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea – china plates and teacups are a must.

I am very excited to be sharing my review today for Summer Strawberries at Swallowtail Bay by Katie Ginger #backablogger #blogtour #swallowtailbay @rararesources @katiegauthor

I love it when you click with an author and I love reading books by Katie Ginger as they are always light hearted which is the perfect read right now. Today I am sharing my review for her new release Summer Strawberries at Swallowtail Bay.

My Review

I loved my first trip to Swallowtail Bay and was very excited to see the second book in the series advertised.

I love the location of the book, set along the Kent coast in a fictional town with the countryside just a stone throw away. I love living close to the sea and it really brings the setting to life with the thrum of the chatter on the beaches on a sunny day and seagulls lurking, these scenes are picture perfect.

In this story we get to know Hetty who has her own business as an events organiser and is looking for a way to branch out and create more business. This is how she comes to meet John who lives in a rundown house that is always in need of maintenance with its sprawling fields and and the gorgeous scent of roses in the gardens.

I loved the details of the planning for the event as I read and the new relationships we were introduced too, as well as revisiting some of the lovely characters who we had initially met in our first trip to Swallowtail Bay.

A wonderful second visit to the gorgeous seaside town where you get to know more wonderful characters. An absolutely pleasure to read, I loved delving into these pages and was smiling as I reached the end.

Book Blurb

Grab your strawberries and cream and get ready to return to the beautiful Swallowtail Bay!

Pop over to my blog today to read my review for One Day in Summer by Shari Low #backablogger #onedayinsummer #rachelsrandomresources @rararesources @sharilow

Today I am joining the blog tour for One Day in Summer by Shari Low. I absolutely loved this book and am excited to recommend you add it to your TBR pile.

My Review

When you first meet the free spirited red head known as Aggs you wonder what adventures you are going to go on throughout this story. She is the quieter of the friends who has fallen in love whilst visiting sunny LA on her latest trip with Celeste.

The story then fast forward a couple of decades and you meet Aggs and her twin daughter’s and get to know her current story.

Set over a dual time line two decades apart the events of the trip to LA unfold whilst you meet the people who totally unravelled her life and the devastating losses she has suffered over the years inbetween.

A wonderful story that tugs your heart strings throughout as you wonder how Aggs can be so nice despite the events that have unfolded. This story unpicks the events and provides a real sense of how deep her friendship with Celeste ran before the devastating betrayal.

I loved this book, it took me on an adventure as Aggs looks for the person she once was as she nears her 45th birthday. Overflowing with wonderful characters and secrets that are finding their way to the surface. A superb heartwarming story that will make you want to laugh, cry and it’ll lift your soul as you delve deeper into the book.

Twin sisters. One scorching summer. A bucketful of secrets.

Diana’s life is perfect. Her twin sister, Josie’s – not so much. They aren’t identical twins. Perhaps the only things they have in common are agreeing their mother can be a nightmare – and their birthdays. This summer they’ll be thirty-five.

Diana has the perfect husband, two talented youngsters, and an adorable dog. She runs a successful business from home, a popular book club, and hosts sparkling parties for her wealthy husband. She always looks as if she’s stepped from the cover of a magazine. Her immaculate second home by the sea, for idyllic summers with her perfect family, was actually featured in one.

Josie has a messy, compact flat, dates, but not relationships, and she can’t even keep a houseplant alive. She moves from job to job, goes clubbing with her friends, and always looks as if she’s fallen through a hedge. She loves Diana, deeply, but each year she declines the invitation to spend the summer with her sister. Or any other family holiday. Because Josie has a secret.

But is Diana’s life so perfect? Or is she hiding something too? When secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change. Josie could finally have the life she’s always wanted … if she’s brave enough to take a chance. And it all begins with a phone call from their mother.

On this sunny Sunday, I am sharing my review for The Little Teashop in Toyko by Julie Caplin

My Review

The Little Teashop in Tokyo is the perfect read if you are looking to loose yourself, this is pure escapism and I loved my trip to Toyko whilst reading this book. It oozed Japanese culture and traditions and took us on a tour of landmarks and let us relish in what their culture means to them. The descriptions were vivid and portrayed a love of Japan and gave great insight into the food and culture.

The characters were delightful and I loved getting to know them. Fiona was a complex character who was finding her feet after having her confidence shattered; making her bucket list trip and determined to take in as much culture and immerse herself in Japan both as a tourist and as a resident. Whereas Gabe was showing Fiona round Japan as a favour and had forgotten the beauty of the country where he had been submerged in his every day life and his previous on/off relationship.

I absolutely loved this book, Japan as a country is somewhere I would love to visit and reading about the amazing sights and traditions just made me want to visit even more. I would love to see the gorgeous cherry blossom and know my daughter would love the digital art museum. This book is escapism at its best, I was transported to Tokyo and felt like I was sitting in the teashop soaking up the culture and enjoying the amazing views from Mount Fiji.

A superb story, with a wonderful balance of characters that makes your heart break and soar as you lose yourself between the pages.

Book Blurb

Grab your passport and escape to a land of dazzling skycrapers, steaming bowls of comforting noodles, and a page-turning love story that will make you swoon!

For travel blogger Fiona, Japan has always been top of her bucket list so when she wins an all-expenses paid trip, it looks like her dreams are coming true.

Until she arrives in vibrant, bustling Tokyo and comes face-to-face with the man who broke her heart ten years ago, gorgeous photographer Gabe.

Fiona can’t help but remember the heartache of their last meeting but amidst the temples and clouds of soft pink cherry blossoms, can Fiona and Gabe start to see life – and each other – differently?

Pop over to my blog today to check out my review of the wonderful The Summer We Ran Away by Jenny Oliver

The perfect book for spending the afternoon sitting in the sunshine reading. I loved this book and will really miss the eager to please Julia and the fiesty Amber as they were such great characters.

When I picked this up I expected to enjoy it as I love reading Jenny Oliver’s books but once I had started it just captured my imagination and I didn’t want to put it down. It transported me to France and took me on the summer holiday we can currently only dream of. I love a nice trip to France and this book just oozed French bakeries and fragrant expresso.

During this story I was taken in many directions with different outcomes down each path, whilst managing to encompass many every day family scenarios all within the one story. I laughed out loud whilst reading this book and wanted a cushion to hide behind as Julia realises everyone has seen her whats app message. A book that will make you feel the emotions as you read them, about the importance of being true to yourself and not trying to please others all the time. An unforgettable adventure that leads to new relationships and the hope that some old ones can be revived.

A brilliant book that I can’t wait to recommend as it kept me hooked right until the very last page.

Book Blurb

It was meant to be the party of the summer…

In Cedar Road, everyone is preparing for Lexi’s ‘White Hot’ summer party. For one night, parking squabbles and petitions are put aside as neighbours sip Prosecco under the fairy lights and gather by the hot tub to marvel at Lexi’s effortlessly glamorous life with Hot Hamish.

For Julia, it’s a chance to coax husband Charlie out of his potting shed and into a shirt so they can have a welcome break from the hellish house renovation they’ve been wrestling with. And it’s a chance for Julia to pretend – just for a night – that her life is as perfect as Lexi’s.

But when, during the party, one of Julia’s WhatsApp messages falls into the wrong hands and reveals her most intimate thoughts, things reach boiling point…

And when all the neighbours know exactly what you’re thinking, there’s only one thing to do.

Run away.

It’s going to be a summer Julia will never forget…

Today I am sharing my review for debut novel Keeping Mum by James Gould-Bourn

My Review

A heart warming debut novel about Danny and his son Will and how they are trying to keep their heads above water following the tragic loss of wife/mother Liz and the aftermath of Will’s recovery.

As you get to know Danny, you realise he is doing all he can to keep a roof over their heads whilst grieving the loss of his wife and trying to contend with Will who has been mute since the accident. Danny is fast approaching rock bottom and is running out of ideas to make enough money to pay the rent and put food on the table.

After losing his job Danny becomes desperate to find a new job and this journey takes him to a whole other world, where he meets new people and eventually learns to start moving on. During this journey he accidentally unlocks the key to getting Will to speak but then he faces new challenges as Will doesn’t realise that he has confided in his Dad.

A story of hope, that will lift your spirits as you keep reading and leave your heart soaring with happiness for them as you reach the end. I really enjoyed this book and found that the more I read the more I was routing for Danny, Will and their unlikely collection of friends.

Book Blurb

Danny Malooley’s life is falling apart.

He’s a single parent with an eleven-year-old son, Will, who hasn’t spoken since the death of his mother in a car crash fourteen months ago. He’s being pursued by a dodgy landlord for unpaid rent and he’s just lost his job. Struggling to find work, and desperate for money, Danny decides to do what anyone in his position would do.

He becomes a dancing panda.

After seeing street performers in his local park raking it in, he spends his last fiver on a costume… but the humiliation is worth it when Will finally speaks to him for the first time since his mother’s death. The problem is Will doesn’t know that the panda is in fact his father, and Danny doesn’t want to reveal his true identity in case Will stops talking again.

But Danny can’t keep up the ruse forever…

Today I am sharing my review for Unbroken By Madeleine Black

Today is my spot on the blog tour for Unbroken by the lovely Madeleine Black, I was delighted to be able to share my review and hope that it inspires more people to grab a copy and read her memoir.

My Review

I read this book a couple of years ago after seeing it recommended on TBC and wow what a book that has stuck with me ever since. I struggled to write my review when I initially read this book and even now revisiting it, it is so hard to put into words how this book left me feeling and how brave Madeleine was to write her story.

This book oozes courage and bravery, whilst heart wrenching and at times hard to read it is compelling as it lays bare events that have taken place. It leaves no stone unturned when retelling of the brutality that took place when Madeleine was gang raped in her teens.

Once I had read the 1st few pages I literally had to keep reading and although deeply moving and heart wrenchingly descriptive it was a book I found I couldn’t put down. The message of this book is that despite everything Madeleine is a person filled with positivity and forgiveness which she shares through many platforms. Helping others in similar situations to deal with their feelings and to realise that events that take place do not define who you are as a person.

A superb and harrowing memoir that isn’t for the light hearted by carries such an important message that you choose what defines you. A book I would highly recommend reading and passing what you learn from this book onto those around you.

Book Blurb

For many years after that night, my memories of what happened after he held the blade to my throat and threatened my life were fragmented… difficult to piece together. It was too extreme, too violent for me to understand.

Violently gang-raped when she was thirteen years old, and raped three more times before the age of eighteen, Madeleine has experienced more trauma in her life than most ever will.

Living in a state of shock and self-loathing, it took her years of struggle to confront the buried memories of that first attack and begin to undo the damage.

Yet, after growing up with a burden no teenager should ever have to shoulder, she found the heart to carry out the best revenge plan of all: leading a fulfilling and happy life. But the road to piecing her life back together was long and painful. For Madeleine, forgiveness was the key. True forgiveness takes genuine effort. It is the ultimate act of courage.
In Unbroken, Madeleine tells her moving and empowering story, as she discovers that our lives are not defined by what knocks us down – they are defined by how we get back up.

If you love Historical Fiction, pop over to my blog to read my review for Rainy Days for the Harper Girls by Rosie Clarke #backablogger #rachelsrandomresources #historicalfiction #rosieclarke @rararesources @boldwoodbooks @anneherries

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Rainy Days for the Harper Girls.

My Review

Rainy Days for the Harper Girls forms part of the Harper Girls series by Rosie Clarke.

Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres and as soon as I saw the cover for this book and read the blurb, I couldn’t wait to read it. Set in the lead up to World War I this book conveys the feelings of many men and women as the likelihood of England joining the war became imminent. This book is rich in other events that were taking place in England during this time and talks about the suffragete movement and how perspectives were starting to change. Women wanted the opportunity to vote and continue working after marriage. The class divide is also highlighted, the often poor treatment of women at the hands of their husbands and how continuing education simply wasn’t an option for some families. Due to the immediate need to help put food on the table and what happened to families who couldn’t afford their rent or food.

Whilst reading this wonderful story there was something for everyone with romance blossoming, the birth of a baby, historical events and the continued loyalty of the Harper girls.

I can’t wait to read more books in this series as I loved the friendships formed and would love another visit to the wonderful Harper store with its gorgeous window displays.
