My Review

A story set on a dual timeline where you follow Laure and her time spent as an au pair in Prague and modern day in Paris.

Laure is half English and half French and finds herself in Prague in the late eighties, where she meets and falls in love with Tomaz who is a musician. This is a love story of how two people from different walks of life meet who meet in a turbulent time in the history of prague and fall in love with repercussions for everyone involved.

The Museum of Broken Promises is what Laure has created many years later based on her experiences in Prague and where other people can request to display items that also demonstrate broken promises that have influenced their lives.

Whilst reading this book I gained an insight into events that took place in Prague during this time and the political history created.

A brilliant book with lots of historical information layered inside the love story that was created. I loved the dual timelines and how the reflection of events Laure experienced in Prague still influenced her life in present day.

Book Blurb

Welcome to The Museum of Broken Promises, a place of wonder and sadness. And hope.

Inside lies a treasure trove of objects – a baby’s shoe, a wedding veil, a railway ticket – all revealing real moments of loss and betrayal. It is a place where people come to speak to the ghosts of the past. The owner, Laure, is also one of those people.

As a young woman in the 1980s Laure fled to Prague, where her life changed forever. Now, years later, she must confront the origins of her heart-breaking exhibition: A love affair with a dissident musician, a secret life behind the iron curtain, and a broken promise that she will never forget.

I am a total bookworm who loves nothing more than to lose herself in a book. My pile of books to read is teetering higher and higher as there are not enough hours in the day compared to how many old and new amazing books there are out there to read. I love to read in my spare time and books are a massive part of our household. I feel really lucky that Daisy also loves losing herself in the amazing worlds the authors are creating for us and neither of us ever go very far without having a book to hand as you never know when an opportunity to read may present itself.
