My Review
Today I am very excited to be sharing my review for this superb read by Clare Empson. This is a new author for me and I can’t wait to read more after diving into this one!
Mine is a book that lures you in really quickly, the dual time line flits between Alice in the seventies and Luke present day. As you get to know the characters you start to realise there is more to events that are happening than meets the eye.
A vivid book where the colours and music burst out of the story, I love the musicality throughout this story and the links to art. The sketches are well described and it helps you to visualise them as the story progresses.
I liked the split time line and how they tied together as the story progressed and more was revealed about the characters in the family as the story picked up momentum.
Overall a superb book that will make you smile, break your heart and make your heart race as you grip the book a little tighter as I was never quite sure where the story was going to go next.
Book Blurb
‘Who am I? Why am I here? Why did my mother give me away?’
On the surface, Luke and his girlfriend Hannah seem to have a perfect life. He’s an A&R man, she’s an arts correspondent and they are devoted to their new-born son Samuel.
But beneath the gloss Luke has always felt like an outsider. So when he finds his birth mother Alice, the instant connection with her is a little like falling in love.
When Hannah goes back to work, Luke asks Alice to look after their son. But Alice – fuelled with grief from when her baby was taken from her 27 years ago – starts to fall in love with Samuel. And Luke won’t settle for his mother pushing him aside once again…
