When Polly Met Olly 2020

My Review

A brilliant light hearted read of pure escapism set in the heart of New York.

Polly is a bubbly vibrant character that you instantly like who is determined to live her dream and be a success in New York. When Polly  lands a new jobs she is sent to the offices where Olly works and she realises that she might fancy him.

This book oozes wonderful characters from the deceitful Alicia, to the charming Olly and her room mate who loves drag in his spare time. There is something for everyone as you explore New York and meet these wonderful characters and spend time with them all.

A light hearted read that will make you laugh and cringe as you read, a great read to snuggle up with on a cold evening and this is now my new favourite book from this author.

Book Blurb

Polly and Olly were never supposed to meet…

Polly might spend her days searching for eligible matches for her elite list of clients at her New York dating agency, but her own love life is starting to go up in smoke.

Even worse, she can’t stop thinking about the very person she’s meant to be setting her latest client up with… surely it can’t get any worse!

But then Polly bumps into oh-so-handsome Olly, who heads up a rival agency, and realizes that perhaps all really is fair in love and dating war…

Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella and Debbie Viggiano.

My Review

A superb 5* read that is already up there in my favourite reads of the year. I literally read this in a sitting as I just couldn’t put it down and keep recommending it as it was so memorable.

Bess is a desperate unmarried mother who works alongside her father in the market to help keep her family afloat. Her brother tells her about The Foundling and this is where her desperate journey begins with her newborn child. I had never heard of The Foundling hospital before reading this book and would now love to know more.

The characters are well described and so vivid that they jump off of the pages. The story is set in Pre-Victorian London and is a sensory overload of smells, noises and squalor. I really loved the story and found myself further absorbed the more it unfolded and was so sad to reach the end as I had truly loved losing myself in the story.

A truly addictive read that just pulls you in brimming with fantastic characters. It is beautifully written and a story that will stay with me, it was so memorable with a stunning cover that looks gorgeous on my book shelf.

Book Blurb

Two women, bound by a child, and a secret that will change everything . . .

London, 1754. Six years after leaving her illegitimate daughter Clara at London’s Foundling Hospital, Bess Bright returns to reclaim the child she has never known. Dreading the worst, that Clara has died in care, she is astonished when she is told she has already claimed her. Her life is turned upside down as she tries to find out who has taken her little girl – and why.

Less than a mile from Bess’s lodgings in the city, in a quiet, gloomy townhouse on the edge of London, a young widow has not left the house in a decade. When her close friend – an ambitious young doctor at the Foundling Hospital – persuades her to hire a nursemaid for her daughter, she is hesitant to welcome someone new into her home and her life. But her past is threatening to catch up with her and tear her carefully constructed world apart.

From the bestselling author of The Familiars comes this captivating story of mothers and daughters, class and power, and love against the greatest of odds . . .

#Review – Today I am very excited to be joining the blog tour for New Beginnings at Wynter House by Emily Harvale #BackaBlogger #Wyntersleapseries #BlogTour @rararesources @emilyharvale

Today I am so excited to be sharing my review as part of the blog tour for New Beginnings at Wynter House by the lovely Emily Harvale

New Beginnings at Wynter House

My Review

I am loving reading both the Wyntersleap & Merriment Bay series and how they are starting to cross over into eachother with characters appearing in both series. This is the second book in the Wyntersleap series and was very eagerly awaited by me as I loved the first one.

It was lovely getting to visit Rafe & Neva again as they get to know eachother and we start to learn more about their characters. Neve is now all set to move and Rafe is busy with trying to get his Gin business off the ground. Whilst there are other dramas going on around them that keep drawing Rafe’s attention to them.

The characters in this series are lovely, we have now got to know them and are getting to know their character traits. This book picked up where the first left off which was great, as you could literally read them back to back and they would feel like one book.

In the first book we had a tour of the grounds of Wynter House but in this book we get to explore more, with vivid descriptions both inside and outside the house which I loved as it helped me visualise what was happening and kept drawing me to pick the book back up every time I put it down.

I was disappointed to reach the end as I was so absorbed in the book, I didn’t realise how far through it I was and I can’t wait for the next visit to either Wynter House or Merriment Bay!

Book Blurb

The New Year brings unexpected revelations at Wynter House.

Neva Grey’s Christmas brought several surprises. Now a shocking secret has life-changing consequences for the Wynters, as the New Year brings revelations … and relatives to Wynter House.

It also brings Hazel Smart and Amelia Goodbody. And it’s not just Adam and Rafe Wynter who are pleased Hazel and Amelia have come to stay. Olivia Wynter will enjoy bossing nurse Hazel around and she also makes it clear Amelia – who is handling the marketing for Rafe’s new business venture – is far more suited to be her grandson’s girlfriend than Neva will ever be.

Whilst Amelia is ensconced at Wynter House, Neva is busy with her new hair and beauty salon in Merriment Bay. Perhaps she should enlist her niece, Sasha’s help because just when she thought she had found the love of her life, old secrets, ghosts from the past, and new arrivals might shatter all her dreams.

At least she has her best friend, Jo Duncan to lean on. But newly single, Jo is determined to have some fun, both at Wynter House and in Merriment Bay. And so is Adam Wynter.

This is book two in the Wyntersleap series but it can be read as a standalone. The Wyntersleap series is interlinked with the Merriment Bay series and several characters appear in both series.

#Review Today I am very excited to be kicking off the blog tour for Four Minutes to Save a Life by Anna Stuart #BlogTour #BackaBlogger @tr4cyf3nt0n @annastuartbooks

Today I am excited to be kicking off the blog tour for Four Minutes to Save a Life, I loved Bonnie and Stan and am really excited to be joining the blog tour for Anna Stuart’s new release.

4 Mins Blog Tour

My Review

Four Minutes to Save a Life is a beautiful story that pulls on your heartstrings throughout. As the story unfolds you get to know Charlie who has just started delivering groceries and what has lead him to this point in his life.

Whilst delivering groceries Charlie encounters people who as the story progresses you grow to love and whose insecurities and isolation begins to become apparent as well as what has lead them to the points they are at in their lives. This story demonstrates the impact of loneliness and how relationships grow with nurturing and time as Charlie realises four minutes will never been enough.

I loved this book it touches on depression, alcoholism and the powers of social media which are all massive influences in todays society. Anna Stuart has a wonderful way with words and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Book Blurb

There’s always time to help out a stranger…isn’t there?

Supermarket delivery driver Charlie enjoys his new job, because he doesn’t have to spend too long with people, who, he’s found, are nothing but trouble. But when he’s assigned the Hope Row street, he realises there are a lot of lonely people out there – and for some, he’s their only interaction.

The supermarket boss tells Charlie he’s a driver, not a social worker – but Charlie can’t abandon the Hope Row residents and he sets about trying to draw them out of their shells and back into the world. But will his helping hand make everything worse?

About the Author

Anna wanted to be an author from the moment she could pick up a pen and was writing boarding-school novels behind the sofa by the age of nine. She made the early mistake of thinking she ought to get a ‘proper job’ and went into Factory Planning – a career that gave her some wonderful experiences, amazing friends and even a fantastic husband, but did not offer much creative scope. So when she stopped to have children she took the chance to start the ‘improper job’ of writing. During the baby years she wrote in those gaps provided by sleeps, playschools and obliging grandparents, publishing short stories and serials in all the women’s magazines.

Her ultimate aim was to write longer fiction and several years ago she published a series of successful historical novels under the pseudonym Joanna Courtney. She will continue to publish under that name but is delighted, as Anna Stuart, to also be able to write Bonnie and Stan – a real-life romance set in both the present day and sixties Liverpool.

#Review – Today to celebrate Valentine’s Day I am sharing my review of the wonderful The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver #BackaBlogger #LydiaBird #ValentinesDay @josiesilver_ @penguinrandom @EllieeHud

Today I am sharing my review for The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver, I was lucky enough to be sent a copy by Ellie at Penguin Randomhouse – thank you I absolutely loved it!!

My Review

I loved One Day in December and was really excited to see that Josie Silver was releasing another book, this story sucks you in from the very 1st pages and makes you want to keep reading.

Lydia is the main character and she is lost after losing the love of her life, she is worrying those around her and her mother and sister are making sure she eats and trying to get her to sleep. From the offset you can feel the power of the loss for Lydia and it tugs your heartstrings and draws you further in.

A story oozing with love and loss and it makes you reflect on how would you even contemplate moving on when you had your whole life mapped out. Lydia and her family are all grieving after the tragedy that has struck them and this story touches on how it impacts relationships with others around you and how would you go about building new relationships as you put yourself back together.

A really raw story that makes you think and gives you all of the feels as you read and get to know Lydia and the wonderful love of her life.

Book Blurb

What if you could live your great love story again?

Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’ve been together for almost a decade, and Lydia thinks their love is indestructible.

But she’s wrong. Because on her 27th birthday, Freddie dies in a tragic accident.

So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants to do is hide indoors and sob ’til her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to live her life well. So, enlisting the help of his best friend and her sister Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world and starts to live – perhaps even to love – again.

Then something unbelievable happens, and Lydia gets another chance at her old life with Freddie. But what if there’s someone in her new life who wants her to stay?

A heart-breaking, uplifting story for fans of PS I Love You and Me Before You, this gorgeously romantic novel will make you laugh, cry and remind you of what a wonderful gift it is to love and to be loved.

#Review – Today I am sharing my review of Dreaming of Verona by T.A Williams #Blogtour #Publicationday #BackaBlogger @tawilliamsbooks @rararesources

Today I am joining the publication day celebrations for Dreaming of Verona by T.A Williams.

My Review

Dreaming of Verona is a lovely light hearted read that will warm your heart as you turn the pages. T.A Williams is a new author to me and I am so pleased I have discovered such a lovely new author.

The story is set in Italy and is full of vivid descriptions, the location is stunning and the food made my mouth water as it sounded delicious!

Alex and Suzie are wonderful and contrasting characters and I loved reading about the adventures as new friendships and relationships were formed and romances blossomed.

A brilliant light hearted read, that will leave you with a warm glow, a superb feel good read that made me smile throughout.

Book Blurb

Verona is the City of Love. But will Suzie find romance there or, like Romeo and Juliet, will it all end in tears?

When Suzie is hired to accompany spoiled, abrasive Lady Alexandra Tedburn on an all-expenses paid holiday to Italy, she fears the trip will be a disaster.

But she soon discovers there’s more to Alex than shopping and tantrums, and she’s determined to help her realise her potential – against Alex’s authoritarian father’s wishes.
As they settle in Verona, Suzie can’t stop thinking about local artist Michael, who is still mourning the tragic death of his wife. With Suzie’s future uncertain, and Michael’s past
holding him back, it seems there’s no hope for romance in the city of
star-crossed lovers… or is there?

A gorgeously uplifting and moving story, Dreaming of Verona is the perfect read for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Jenny Oliver

About the Author

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only seven years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing romantic comedy is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations and, as a writer, I obviously have to go there in person and check them out first. I love my job…
