#Review Today I am helping to kick off the blog tour for What She Saw Last Night by MJ Cross

Today I am helping to kick off the blog your for What She Saw Last Night. MJ Cross is a new author to me and I was keen to get stuck in and see if the book was as good as the blurb indicated.

I loved reading this book, it was a story that took twists and turns and kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next throughout. I loved the sleeper train where the story kicked off and it added a totally different spin on the who done it scenario. This book reminded me of Cluedo just set on a sleeper train. Throughout this book I was looking for clues and second guessing as to what was unfolding on each page.

A story that had me hooked from the first few pages and kept me hooked throughout, I love finding a new author and this book did not disappoint and I look forward to reading more from MJ Cross in the future.

No one will believe … WHAT SHE SAW LAST NIGHT.

Jenny Bowen is going home. Boarding the Caledonian Sleeper, all she wants to do is forget about her upcoming divorce and relax on the ten-hour journey through the night.

In her search for her cabin, Jenny helps a panicked woman with a young girl she assumes to be her daughter. Then she finds her compartment and falls straight to sleep.

Waking in the night, Jenny discovers the woman dead in her cabin … but there’s no sign of the little girl. The train company have no record of a child being booked on the train, and CCTV shows the dead woman boarding alone.

The police don’t believe Jenny, and soon she tries to put the incident out of her head and tells herself that everyone else is right: she must have imagined the little girl.

But deep down, she knows that isn’t the truth.

#Review Today I am sharing a review for a lovely festive read – Daisy’s Christmas Gift Shop by Hannah Pearl

Daisys Christmas Gift Shop

Today I am joining the blog tour for Daisy’s Christmas Gift Shop, I have previously enjoyed books by Hannah Pearl and was happy to see this pop up to read as I love a book set in the lead up to Christmas.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming story where we met Daisy and her family, Daisy is a loveable character who spends her time focused on making other people happy. She lives within easy reach of her Dad and brother to ensure that she can look after them when she isn’t looking after her customers at work. Daisy is a character that will always go the extra mile and put others needs before her own to make life as smooth as possible for everyone.

A story about love, happiness and family bonds, it will make you laugh, gasp out loud and wonder what is going to happen next. A lovely festive read which will make you want to go out to find special gifts for your loved ones this Christmas.

Struggling to find the perfect Christmas gift? Step into Romantic Daze …

Daisy Kirk is a sucker for a love story, which is why she opened up her gift shop – because there’s nothing that makes Daisy happier than when she’s helped a customer achieve their own ‘happily ever after’ by finding the perfect Christmas gift for their loved one. And she absolutely does not just sell ‘soppy presents and frilly pants’ as her brother’s infuriating best friend, Eli, is so fond of suggesting.

The sad fact is that whilst Daisy is helping others with their love lives, hers is non-existent. But when unusual circumstances take Daisy and Eli on a road trip from London to rural Wales, will she finally get the happily ever after to her own Christmas love story?

#Review Today I am taking part in the blog tour for Lottie Sparkles’ Magical Discovery by Petra Quelch

Lottie Sparkles Magical Discovery

Screenshot 2019-11-12 at 11.06.11

Today I am excited to share my review for Lottie Sparkle’ Magical Discovery, we love the opportunity to read and review younger children’s books to help encourage kids to read.

We loved the story of Lottie Sparkles’ and I was quickly absorbed in the story of Lottie and her adventures to visit her Grandparents. As I read the book I loved the descriptions, they used words to really grab the imaginations of the reader. I found myself so wrapped up in the way the story was jumping off of the pages at me that I didn’t look through the illustrations as I read, instead I went back to them afterwards as I just loved the excitement that this story created.

Overall a brilliant book oozing with magic and a story guaranteed to capture the imagination of children and help them really bring the story to life.

Who wouldn’t like a magical jacket? Lottie Sparkles is a little girl who loves everything sparkly, mainly clothes. Anything plain or dirty is a disgrace in Lottie’s mind!

When Lottie is sent to spend time with her lovely grandparents in the countryside, she is furious because that essentially means smelly animals, lots of puddles and hard work! But what she certainly didn’t count on was coming face to face with a magical object.

The author loves everything sparkly and glittery but hopefully, she says, she is not a diva like Lottie from her book. Aside from all the glitz and glamour, she is a collector of magical books, tea sets, movies and a huge fan of chocolate. She has two little girls also known as “The Little Book-Fairies” with never ending imagination.

#Review Today I am taking part in the blog tour for Coming Home to Merriment Bay – Part Two: Sparks Fly by Emily Harvale

Coming home to Merriment Bay Part 2

Screenshot 2019-11-12 at 10.45.51

Today I am sharing my review for Part Two of the Merriment Bay series. I am really enjoying this series and this book picks up straight from where part one ended.

In this visit to Merriment Bay you get to know more about Mary and her links to the Wells family and why she is so keen for Cat to stay away from Amias. The first two parts of the story books are full of family drama and are flowing together effortlessly.  This has left me wanting to know what comes next for the Devon girls and what else has happened in the past that is going to come to light as the story continues to unravel.

I love the style of writing from Emily Harvale as I know when I pick up her books I will enjoy the story and that they will be light hearted escapism at its best.

Screenshot 2019-11-12 at 10.46.20

Part Two of this heartwarming four-part serial about finding the strength to put the past behind you and to reach out for a future filled with happiness and love.

Cat Devon knew she couldn’t avoid Amias Wells for long. She also knew sparks would fly the moment they came face to face. They never did get on and nothing has changed in eighteen years – except that Amias is even more annoying. So why does Cat still catch her breath whenever he looks her way?

The fact he flies a vintage Spitfire for the Merriment Bay WWII Museum doesn’t interest Cat, but his knowledge of the former RAF pilots stationed there certainly does. She wants to find out all she can about the man in the photo in Viola’s trunk. And what with hospital visits, dealing with her mum, and sorting out problems with Viola’s house, Cat could use more than just Kyra’s help.

But Kyra makes it clear she thinks Cat and Amias should spend more time together. Which is ridiculous. Apart from the fact they don’t get on, Amias wasn’t interested in Cat before the accident that left the ugly scars on her face and body, so he definitely won’t be attracted to her now. Besides, Cat’s not looking for romance. She’s happy with her life just the way it is.

#Review Today is my stop on the blog tour for Things Can Only Get Better by David M Barnett

Things Can Only Get Better blog tour

Screenshot 2019-11-08 at 15.10.27

I am very excited to be taking part in the blog tour today, this is my second book by this author and it is a book you will again fall in love with the more that you read.

A story that slowly draws you in as you get to know the characters and compels you to keep reading. It discusses social inequality and how opportunities do not always present themselves easily but with enough fight you can go after what you want to make the life you want for yourself.

I found that the more I got to know Arthur and his companions who he spoke to in the graveyard each morning, the more I wanted to keep reading to find out what had led Arthur to be leading such a solitary life. At least Arthur did lead a quiet life until the kids who you will grow to love as you keep reading indadvertedly find themselves at the door of the chapel and you begin to wonder what can blossom from this budding relationship.

I found this an enlightening read that I would recommend to my teenage daughter as it highlights bullying and social issues that need more awareness drawn to them to help behaviours change in the future.

Another stunning read by David Barnett that I thoroughly enjoyed, it is brimming with wonderful characters, the attention to detail is amazing and it makes this whole story unravel in your imagination so clearly and leaves you feeling warm hearted and with a happy glow.

For elderly churchwarden Arthur Calderbank, there’s no place like home. His home just so happens to be a graveyard.

He keeps himself to himself, gets on with his job, and visits his wife everyday for a chat. When one day he finds someone else has been to see his wife – and has left flowers on her grave – he is determined to solve the mystery of who and why. He receives unlikely help from a group of teenage girls as he tries to solve the mystery, and soon learns that there is more to life than his little graveyard.

#Review Happy Publication Day, today I am sharing my review for The Light in the Hallway by Amanda Prowse #backablogger #publicationday @mrsamandaprowse

Happy Publication Day to the lovely Amanda Prowse, today she releases the heartwarming The Light in the Hallway.

I absolutely love reading Amanda’s books and this book was another superb read that pulls you in and makes you want to keep reading.

Nick and Olly are left reeling after the loss of Kerry and this story is about how piece by piece they start putting their lives back together. Nick learns how to stand up for what he believes in and demonstrates to Olly the importance of continuing to live, love and move on.

A book full of love and strength that is emotionally charged throughout. Amanda has such a way with words that makes you feel like you know these characters and can feel their emotions as they unfold. A brilliant story that will have you reaching for the tissues.

When Nick’s wife Kerry falls ill and dies, he realises for the first time how fragile his happiness has always been, and how much he’s been taking his good life and wonderful family for granted. Now, he suddenly finds himself navigating parenthood alone, unsure how to deal with his own grief, let alone that of his teenage son, Olly.

In the depths of his heartbreak, Nick must find a way to navigate life that pleases his son, his in-laws, his family and his friends—while honouring what Kerry meant to them all. But when it comes to his own emotions, Nick doesn’t know where to begin. Kerry was his childhood sweetheart—but was she really the only one who could ever make him happy?

And in the aftermath of tragedy, can Nick and his son find themselves again?

Available to purchase here

Amanda Prowse likens her own life story to those she writes about in her books. After self-publishing her debut novel, Poppy Day, in 2011, she has gone on to author twenty-two novels and six novellas. Her books have been translated into a dozen languages and she regularly tops bestseller charts all over the world. Remaining true to her ethos, Amanda writes stories of ordinary women and their families who find their strength, courage and love tested in ways they never imagined. The most prolific female contemporary fiction writer in the UK, with a legion of loyal readers, she goes from strength to strength. Being crowned ‘queen of domestic drama’ by the Daily Mail was one of her finest moments. Amanda is a regular contributor on TV and radio but her first love is, and will always be, writing.

# Review Today we are reviewing Home Alone Harry by Jerry Rhodes, Rachael Messiter & Nicky Hill

Home Alone Harry Full Tour Banner

Today I am joining the blog tour for Home Alone Harry.

I found this book to be well thought out with regards to layout, the fonts are clear and a great size for younger readers. The message of this story is about teaching a family how to cope and prevent the anxiety their dog Harry is suffering from.

I found the book informative and with a great family feel for how the kids could also get involved to help Harry feel more settled and relaxed.

When Daisy read this book she liked the way it helped you see what was happening from a dogs perspective. She felt this helped the family to think more about how Harry might behave when they are not home.

A great book to help children get involved with dog training and to help them understand how dogs can respond to situations and how to reward positive behaviour.

Screenshot 2019-11-08 at 14.51.27

Harry is a mischievous young dog, adored by his family, Dad and Mum, Maisie (8) and Max (5). When the family leave him on his own he creates chaos. Dad demands, “That bad dog must go!” Alone and sad in bed that evening, Max asks, “Can anyone help?” How will the Thunkies respond to his call?

Jerry Rhodes AUTHOR – Jerry Rhodes’ life-long research and teaching is the inspiration behind ‘Home Alone Harry’, this first book in a series for children featuring the cartoon characters, Thunkies®. After completing his degree and teacher training at Oxford University, Jerry’s career as a school-master was cut short by polio. He changed course to a management career in industry, discovered his talents for creativity, and formed his world-wide consultancy to collaborate with international organisations. A special project with Philips led to the discovery of ‘Thinking-Intentions’, to which he has now given the playful name, Thunkies®. Jerry writes his books from his weather-beaten old farmhouse in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds.

Rachael Messiter AUTHOR – Rachael Messiter, a Dog Listener, uses the approach known as Amichien® Bonding pioneered by Jan Fennell. Rachael has her own practice, Talking Paws, based in Staffordshire. Previously she lived with wolves for close on two years in Colorado, USA, to learn how packs work. She has identified a group of issues that dog owners experience that are due to the well-meaning but flawed behaviours of owners, rather than ‘nuisance’ dogs. How to properly avoid and resolve such troublesome issues will be the theme of each book in the series Thunkies® love Dogs.

Nicky Hill ILLUSTRATOR – Nicky Hill is an illustrator and storyteller from Winterbourne near Bristol. Her artwork is featured throughout the Thunkies® Love Dogs books, bringing a bright, vibrant style that captures the imagination. A great lover of animals both wild and domestic, Nicky also illustrates and writes her own series of books about ‘The Wotton Pack’; a group of inquisitive pooches who spend their days and nights having many adventures. She currently lives with her own pack of three dogs in Wotton-under-Edge, a small town in Gloucestershire, where she also co-runs the shop called ‘The Collective’.
